Urology Partners and The Rezūm System for BPH 2018-08-02T21:57:29+00:00

Introduction

The Rezūm system was introduced to the UK in 2017 as a new minimally invasive treatment for BPH. Professor Richard Hindley was the first surgeon in the UK to offer this both on the NHS and privately and is collecting data for this treatment in preparation for NICE approval. Rezūm offers patients an alternative to taking BPH medications daily with a short day case procedure that doesn’t require General Anaesthesia. Currently the results are proving equivalent to the US Clinical Data.

The Rezum System

Rezūm uses the natural thermal energy stored in water vapor, or steam, to treat the enlarged prostate tissue that causes BPH symptoms such as frequency, urgency, irregular flow, weak stream, straining and getting up at night to urinate. The water vapor is delivered into the targeted prostate tissue and when the vapor contacts the tissue it condenses, releasing the stored thermal energy, causing the obstructive prostate tissue cells to die. Over the next few weeks, the body’s natural healing response eliminates the treated tissue, shrinking the prostate. With the extra tissue removed, the urethra opens, reducing BPH symptoms and improving the patient’s quality of life.

News

Richard Hindley carried out his first Rezum treatment for BPH in March 2017 and now, following 3 month results, one patient tells his story to The Daily Mail.

Richard has now carried out 20 cases both on the NHS at North Hampshire Hospital and privately at BMI The Hampshire Clinic.

The new minimally invasive treatment for BPH is so far showing good 3 month results. The procedure is already FDA approved in the US and they are treating around 1,000 patients a month with this procedure.

The advantages of a short time in hospital, allowing for a speedy recovery and back to normal routines make it an exciting new option for patients and hospitals alike.
