Richard Hindley
Consultant Urological Surgeon
Richard has over 15 years of Urology expertise and continues to develop a range of treatment options for patients to ensure an optimal, personalised treatment plan is available to them. Problems with BPH don’t need to be part of your everyday life and our team of consultants are here to ensure their patients can make an informed choice for the most appropriate treatment and reduce the everyday impact of BPH symptoms.
Richard Hindley was the first surgeon in the UK to carry out the Rezum procedure on patients both on the NHS and privately at BMI The Hampshire Clinic. Richard has now completed over 120 Rezum patients and so far we are seeing good 3 month results. The procedure is already FDA approved in the US and they are treating around 1,000 patients a month with this procedure.
Richard believes, that for a benign condition, the side-effects of TURP are unacceptable and has always favoured a more minimally invasive approach. Having been involved in Greenlight Laser Surgery since 2005, and the trials surrounding it, alongside the Rezum procedure, Richard has a level of expertise allowing him to offer his patients the most suitable treatment and patient choice.
Richard has been using Greenlight Laser for the past 12 years and Urolift for the last 2 years. The experience of these procedures ensures Richard is perfectly placed to offer a balanced view for an optimal, individual treatment plan for each patient.
Having qualified in Scotland at the University of Dundee, Richard spent his initial surgical training in Brighton before embarking on 6 years specialist Urology training based in the South Thames training region.
Richard is now the clinical lead in Urology in his department at the North Hampshire Hospital. He has introduced cutting edge treatments including the first centre outside of London offering day case laser prostate surgery for BPH in 2005. He is also a recognised expert in prostate cancer diagnosis and focal treatment using technologies such as HIFU and Cryotherapy. Basingstoke is now one of the leading centres in the UK and receives referrals from across the South of England. He has very much been at the forefront of treatments for benign and malignant conditions of the prostate.
